Default Colorado scenery and bowhunt

I'm considering an "over-the-counter" elk bowhunt in Colorado this year andwould like to see some great scenery during my hunt. Any of you elk hunters have any recommendations on units to look into that offer some greatmountain scenery! Elk numbers are a consideration but not the most important aspect of the hunt. Thanks!

If it's scenery you're lookin' for, just take a few days to drive all the highways along the continental divide!! You'll see some great scenery!
Lots of good public hunting in the mountains, and most any where will have some great scenery! ANy ideas of what part of Colo. you're wanting to see?

There are many beautiful areas to hunt. Three areas I would consider are all wilderness areas: Maroon Bells, West elk, and Weminuche. All gorgeous scenery with good elk populations. However, if you hunt there you must be in better than excellent shape and have a plan to get a huge animal back to the truck in warm weather if you get one down.

Good luck!

txhunter58, Maroon Bells was an area I was thinking about. I'll need to do some research in that I'm not sure it's open for over-the-counter tags. Thanks alot.

Maroon Bells is in unit 43 and should still be an OTC unit. Can't beat the scenery. Never hunted there, but hiked in the capital creek area and you can't beat the scenery.

Don't think he could hunt OTC there though. 85, but not 84.

you can hunt area 84 with an OTC tag. 84 and unit 69 have no antler point restrictions. In fact, With a bull elk OTC tag, you can hunt any Unit in the state. Unless its a special draw only area like unit 140, 851 for example.

gander, ya better look at your brochure again, because here is a list of the archery units that you CAN'T hunt with a OTC archery tag,...1,2,4,5,7,8,9,10,12,19,20,23,24,29,33,39,40 ,46,48,49,50,51,56,57,58,61,6,67,69,76,84,104,191,201,391,441,461,481,500,501,512,561,and 851
I took these numbers direct from the brochure!! Again, these are units that you CAN NOT HUNT with the OTC tag!!!!
