I think you have gotten some good advise here. From my experience, the first week is good because the elk have not been hunted for awhile and have let there guard down a little. But, if you want to experience the hot bulls screaming their heads off go the last week of the season. Another advantage to this week is that if you are not familiar with the area you would be able to locate them easier. Look for an area 8-9,000 ft that has water and parks for them to herd up in. There you will find the elk.
