Elk hunting
I'm going to Co. (area 441) for the second rifle season to hunt elk. I've read everything I can find on the area, and on elk hunting but still feel like a pilgrim. Although I've hunted whitetails for many years in the south I realize this will be a totally new experience. I would appreciate any tips or information any of you might be willing to share.
Thanks

#1- be prepared for winter. the weather can change VERY quickly and kill you if your not ready for it.
#2- get in shape, elk hunting is done in high, rugged country.
there is no subsitute for quality

Southern hunter, are you driving ? if so bring chain's for all 4 wheel's if you have a 4 wheel drive, losthwy is right, in 1994 at only 8oooft it was 65 the day before the season and 11 degree's and 36 in of snow the next day,we spent all opening day helping people without 4 wheel drive out to the road ! so, I alway's carry extra clothe's in my backpack, not to mention alway's carry what you would need to be out overnite in the wood's, be overprepared, carry and know how to use a compass, don't depend on a gps if you have one, get a topo map and study it, there's a lot of country out there , be careful usahunter
