RE: What did your elk fall to THIS YEAR?
hi Jones,
Not sure which state your hunting but it probably has 100,000 elk and 100 wolves. Congrats for an extra-ordinary expirience. You will remember for the rest of your life.

My fault - I shouldn't have answered that way. We don't want toturn CB's questioninto a wolf topic. Let's either start a wolf topic (already been there)or drop the subject. Sorry.
I am enjoying the real answers to CB's question.

I took my bull with a Remington 700 BDL .338 Remington Ultra Mag. I used a 225 grain Nosler Accubond with 91 gr. of RL 22. It was a long shot (around 450 yards). Hit him twice and he only went 40 yards or so. My dad took a cow with a Ruger .338 Win Mag. 225 grain and my friend took a cow with a 30-06 and a factory 180 gr. Accubond.

Three cows were taken in our three person party this year in CO. First with a 270W at 200yds. Second with a 7mmRM at 254yds. Third with a 300wm at 374yds. Saw no bulls this year - hear them at night though.

Myself and my two buddies all shot .300 Win Mags. 2 fell to Win Failsafes,1 150gr and 1 180gr (the 150gr wasloaded by accident but it worked fine)and mine fell to 180gr Rem. Core Lokts (looking at changing ammo, not happy w/ results). Not even a day and a half into our hunt and it was over!

I took my raghorn bull with 140 gr TSX launched from my 7mm rem mag. The shot was quartering away @ 150 yards bullet took out both lungs &exited just on the rear portion of theshoulder. He travelledless 50 yards before tipping over.
I used the same load/rifle to harvest a 47" Bull Moose as well. This was a heavy quartering away shot at 75 yards, bullet trashed the lungs, went through the opposite shoulder and was found tucked into the hide. He manageda fewsteps before hitting the moss.
