Predator calling black bear
Any body familiar with using a predator call to locate black bear? What kind, like a rabbit distress call? Do you really get down like calling yotes or is it a more subtle technique?

Ya, just use a regular predator call! I watched the Wayne Carlton Video "Calling Bears" And it is a great video... I haven't had any luck calling them in just off chance.. I mean I have never walked into a draw or something and just sat down and started calling and had one come in. However, If you can see them and then start calling... That works!!! I have called in several bears that way! Good Luck!

I live in AZ and the bear hunting is unbeliveable. I use several different calls when bowhunting bears and the one that works the best for me is a combination of a three tone jack rabbit and a call, called the cub bawler. It is more effective to use it after you spot the bear. Another method I use that is very effective is a diaphram (turkey). This gets em coming fast, I have used this call in AZ, New Mexico and Montana, and yes it works on GRIZZLIES too. Good luck in your quest for bear.

I'm with Muliefever and azhoyt here, we've never had much luck calling them in cold calling. But on the other hand have gotten a couple to come in after you have seen them. Not sure if they just dont respond to cold calling or if we've just always been twelve miles away from the closest bear while trying it. Cannt remember which call it was other than a rabbit distress/predator call.
