which rifle would be better

RE: which rifle would be better
i would reccommend the 30-06 over the 7mm. i would use a good quality 200 or 220 gr. bullet. i would have no problem using my 30-06 for bear(that is of course after i sight it in). i would carry a good backup handgun too though no matter what i was hunting with. like a good ole 44 mag or something along the line of that.

It doesn't matter which gun you take both can do the job but if you can't hit the animal in the vitals it doesn't matter what gun you use because the animal is only gonna go down if you hit them in the vitals

Though the 30-06 has been used up here with great success for many years, most guides would strongly recommend if not beg and demand that you bring a magnum 375 H&H etc... If that is not an option for you then I would suggest the 06 with 200 gr. and plan to shoot as many times as you can. Get him down and keep him down. Don't wait for the shock to wear off with one shot just to watch him get up and run into an alder patch...that's when the pucker-factor engages.

I like the 30-06. I don't think that you can get a better all around rifle for animals in North America. I wouldn't be afraid to use the 180 grain fail safes. I know that I sing their praise a lot, but I can't overstate how well they've done for me. I used Nosler partitions for a long time, and loved them, and when the fail safes came out I tried them and never turned back.
