RE: Official team 19 hang out...
Well, I didn't get out yesterday. Did some morning fishing and needed some bait. On my way home, got a call from my wife informing me that our son had just showed up. Came home and spent the afternoon fishing with my son and evening sitting in the living room having a great conversation with him. Anytime one of the kids show up, I am willing to pass on the hunting to be with them. Sorry guys.

Your not the only one AF i didnt get out yesterday either winds were howling and decided against sitting in the tree, went grouse hunting with a couple buddies instead. we ended up with 3 birds so it was a decent day of hunting. glad to hear your boy came home and you got to spend some quality time with him.

I will be back in the woods this weekend (Friday about 3:00 until Sunday about noon). Good to see most everyone has been checking in.

Well I hope the Buck soon follows. LOL!!! Actually that was my plan this year. Get a doe out of the way and into the freezer early so I can pinpoint a buck and focus on him. So far all I have heard of from my hunting buddy who hunts the same property has been 2 small non-legal bucks. I know there are some larger ones hiding around there. Just have to see if I can spot them, then its GAME ON!!! Confidence is running high right now. After that textbook shot saturday night. Maybe I was hunting too hard in past years. Seems to me the less time i spend in the woods the more success I have. LOL[8D]

Well, I got in the stand just before 5 tonight and at 5:15 it was sprinkling, 5:20 a little harder, 5:30 it was pouring! I thought I would wait it out until I heard thunder rolling. Changed my mind pretty dang quick! The bark was kind of slippery too. No sooner got back to the garage and got all my gear off, and it quit. Oh well, I was soaked to the skin and didn't want to be sitting in a slippery tree with lightning. What a wuss.[]

Man what a weekend. This farm is just amazing. 240 acres of absolute deer paradise! I can't even tell you how many deer I saw this weekend. Dang things were running around all over the place. I could have killed NUMEROUS does, but it was just so damned hot out I didn't want to mess with them. We didn't hunt Saturday morning because we didn't have any stands in place, so mid morning we headed out and solved that problem. I didn't see any deer on stand that evening, and forgot my Thermacell so I donated no less than 52 pints of blood to the local tiger mosquito population.
Sunday morning I saw a bunch. With the thermacell blazing away, skeeters were no issue at all. I had a 6 point feeding on acorns directly under me for about half an hour, and when a doe showed up he took an interest in her. She of course wanted nothing to do with it but it was fun to watch. I saw lots more does but shot nothing.
Sunday evening I wanted to hunt over a clover field that they have been tearing up, but I have only one stand and didn't want to move it. And I don't have a ground blind either, so I decided to just sit on a chair about 5 yards in the woods off the field. I left the Mossy Oak Scent Blocker at home for this one, the only camo I'm trusting to this job is my Enigma. About 5:30 2 does entered the field, and I ranged them at 42 yards. After a few minutes, I was like "Wow, they don't know I'm here." They began feeding my direction, and it became obvious that they not only didn't know I was there, but they were gonna come sit in my lap. At 5 FEET the lead doe finally saw me sitting there, and just had this puzzled look on her face.......I could almost read her mind...."WHAT THE??" She merely turned around and headed back to the clover, and I got the bow drawn on her. I had her dead at 12 yards, but decided to pass. They just casually walked into the woods and up the hill. It was really cool.
Saw quite a few more Sunday morning, but no shooters. So, I came home with no deer down, but great experience and we're headed back in a couple weeks. We're also going to head up there the first week of November.
Things are starting to heat up....there are scrapes everywhere. White oaks are dropping acorns, corn is being cut.....it's a great time of year. I'm gonna just keep hunting smart and plugging away, the right one will walk by eventually.
PA, great job on the doe man! Love that G2....
Coop, no need to apologize for not hunting with your son in town....Has he been out hunting yet?

RE: Official team 19 hang out...
He hasn't been out yet. Up in Des Moines, the only places he could hunt is public land with a bunch of idiots out there. He's waiting til Veterans day weekend. I'll be taping his hunt for him and he's psyched about that.

AF I guess I am in that wuss catagory with you. I didn't head out the one morning because of thunder. I figure with a 16' steel climbing stick strapped to the side of the tree I did NOT want to be in it.
MO sounds like you had a great time. I really can't wait to get back at it here this weekend. I think the weather will be ok at least for Saturday. Sunday might rain but I will check when it gets closer.
