RE: Official team 19 hang out...
Thanks. And to be honest, I would rather buy a Ford. If Ford made a 4 door Ranger, I would be on it like white on rice. And I am actually looking at a crew cab F150, and to be honest I really like it. That's kind of been my......."dream truck" ....But I honestly drive over 300 miles every week just going back and forth to work, and I'm not so sure I want to keep feeding a hungry V8. I know 6 or 7 MPG doesn't sound like much, but it's a difference of 3.25 gallons each week, whichis 169 gallons each year which is roughly $600 year. Which is an extra $12 a week....Which, now that I've sounded all smart and analytical, isn't actually that bad. Hm, I wonder how much my insurance will be jacked up though......

MO it really is not a lot but yet is. I have ALWAYS felt that I would rather be in a bigger truck and pay more for gas then a small one saving gas IF I should ever be in that accident. I have seen small cars get hit by bigger trucks and there are a LOT of big trucks on the roads yet. I am many times wondered what a family would pay in gas to get a loved one back that may have been killed in a small car or truck. I know it can happen anytime anywhere but for the little extra I like the bigger truck. Mine is a 2004 and will be paid off in December. I plan on keeping it for many more years. I got it new and replaced a 97 extended cab only because Matt purchased the 97 from me (for dirt cheap). This one I will keep longer than the 7 years I had the last one. Right now I am thinking about 15 or more. Below is a picture of it with the topper which right now is off.
Finner thanks for the kind words to you as well. I know it happens and I will get the next one. Lot's of better days coming. Good to hear the colors are changing up there. We are really looking forward to this and getting that hunting itch taken care of early here helps. Trust me it is still there but I got it scratched a couple of times so far. Good luck when your season starts. The weather should be better than what we have had here.

Finner, this is the 4 cylinder and 2WD Colorado.....I would expect it to get better than 20, but if it doesn't....well then it's a no brainer. F150 all the way.
wi, that's the same truck I'm looking at, only it's grey. And off the top of my head, I can't remember if it's an '04 or 5.......And I hear precisely what you're saying about safety. It's about putting the odds in your favor. I was a FF/EMT for 10 years, and I've learned that we can "what if" until we're blue in the face. In the end, it is compeletely out of our hands. So I tend to look more at the practical side of things. I don't disagree with you in the least, I just have a different thought process is all. That's a sweet ride you have......Is the topper an after market, or was it on there already? I'm definetly going to put one on whatever truck I get......

That is a topper made by ARE. Their website is www.4ARE.comand it is the Z-Series. Color matched with everything it was $1800 back in 2004. Keep in mind that is them installing it and I did get the remote locking option. That is pretty cool because what it does is it makes it so when I lock the truck with my key fob it also locks the topper. They hook it up into the truck locking system. Really nice to have for me. I only have it off right now because I was hauling some dirt and I actually get better mileage with it off than I do with it on. I think the weight bring down the mileage more than the less draghelps. Also this is the first truck where I got the spary in bed liner. Really like that as well. When I had the end loader dump in 3 loads of dirt for landscaping our house this summer it made it so nice to shovel out. No scraching up the paint. Just washed it out and it looks just like new.

Went out last evening. Passed on a doe and a 12" spike that would have scored 35" at 12 yards on the same trail at different times. Watched an 8 pt and two hugh does that I thought were bucks (they were big enough) out on the power line. Points were only about 4-5 inches and a 15-16 inch spread. Saw a number of does and little ones, this years fawns.

Glad you saw some moving around you Rick. How is the weather there? We are stuck in this upper 70's low 80's crap yet. Last night they said another 4 - 5 days and then turning cooler. So maybe by the time I get back out we will have some actual hunting weather.
Mo any word on AF with his computer? Sure gets quiet in here when he is not around.

No, I haven't heard any more from him. He said it would be a while....I know his finances are pretty tight right now; he's trying to get his retirement pay sorted out so he's not got any income, and he's looking for some part time work just to have some flow again. The point is, a new computer is pretty low on the poll...I'm working at the shop this evening so I won't be able to call him, but I likely will tomorrow evening just to shoot the bull .....
So....FINALLY I am getting some cooperation from the wind. Saturday morning is going to be absolutely perfect for one of my best spots. But here's my thing......It's rather warm and humid during the day, and it's rather cool at night. Fog. Thick, thick fog. And it will be even worse down there in that river bottom. Anybody know if the fog affects deer movement? One thing good, they'll have to be close for me to even see them.

That is a bummer about AF. I wish I could help out with it. Hope things turn around for him soon. I thought he was supposed to start getting the retirement checks sometime about 2 weeks ago. They must have screwed him again.
As for the fog I myself like to hunt in the fog and very light rain. I think the deer move more because they can do so without making any real noise. At least in places where I have hunted this has been the case. The problem is you have to be looking everywhere. The my be in range for you to see them for only 15 - 20 seconds and if you are looking a different way you will never even know they walked by. Probably have to keep your bow at the ready the entire time as well to minimize movement. Good luck if you get out there. I have a feeling I will have a lot of catching up to do when I get back.

Ok, I needed a fix. I'm on my neighbor's computer right now. He won't be home for a few hours, so he'll never know.
Fedex picked up my computer yesterday and I was told two weeks before I'll either get it back fixed or they'll tell me how much to fix it.[:-]
Chevy Colorado 4x4 crew cab5 cylinder gets 20 mpg so the 2WD 4 cylinder should get better.
It sucks not getting on here! Hopefully, next time y'all hear from me will be thru mobow with pic's of a buck I text him.
