Default Gonna be a tough 5 weeks

I just got done shooting a practice round. I had some target panic creeping in after the first round. Every shot it seemed like I would freeze on the yellow/red boundary right under the 10 ring. I CAN'T force myself to bring up and aim in the yellow. So what happened was I would shoot low for an 8 or try to compensate at the last moment and get a lucky 10 or shoot high and erratic. In the 9th end it got so bad I shot a 8-8-7. Every single shot was a mental struggle.

Am I trying too hard? Focusing too much? I tried to relax but just couldn't shake the bad vibes. What things can I do to fix this? Probably not going to be any quick fixes. Lots of blank bailing? Shooting without worrying about aiming? Any ideas?

Thanks

Well I just got done shooting another round and it felt alot better. I scored 10 points higher but most of the shots didn't feel so forced. Hopefully it was just a 1 game glitch or something but I wasn't struggling so bad to make a good shot.

Aiming drills. Tighten the release down so it won't fire. Come to full draw and just aim in the yellow for a 10 count then let down. You will get comfortable with floating in the yellow at this point. Do this for several days in a row. Do 30 aiming drills every day (just like a real vegas game). Allow yourself to take time between sets of 3. You should feel much better in a week or two. This would be the best short term solution.

That sounds like a great idea. I'm not having any problems holding steady, I can hold dead steady just under the yellow all day long. Just can't get my mind to bring that pin up.

I'll give it a try. Thanks Matt

Lots of blank bailing?
Thanks
Yep. I'd combine this with Matt's advice.

One other thing to try is drawing down on the target. It sounds like your trying to bring the pin up from the bottom of the target then freezing on a spot just under the X. Try drawing and then aiming at the top of the target then bring the pin "down" to the X........it has helped me in the past

Tried both ways APA. Doesn't seem to matter...I just keep going down past the yellow if I settle from the top. I think after the league I'm gonna take about 6 weeks and start over with the basics again.

This is the answer.

For some reason, people just don't want to do this but it will help. This along with a good old fashioned back tension will do wonders.

This is very common when one reaches the stage you are at.( I fight it at times)You get to the brink of being at the top but your game just isn't there yet.You put pressure on yourself to perform but you haven't gained the form and proper shot sequence and techniqueit takes to take it to the next level, the pressure starts to get the better of you and this is where you are.Getting back to basics will do wonders.
