Hey guys,
I've made it back from one of the most exciting hunts I've ever been on. Let me say this...Gator hunting is nothing shy of a rodeo! Coming from Colorado (where we have very little water) and going to Florida (plenty of water and then some) waspure adventure. The air boat ride, the mosquitos, dodging gator lineswhich could very easily wrap around your feet, harpooning and bowhunting gators, good friends and new found friends...it could not have gotten any better! I learned a lot! Mostly, make sure you have the right tool for the job. Imust say, I was ill prepared for bow hunting gators (I will know better next time-the learning curve is gone). I did, however, pullthe bow huntoff (a comedy of errors-thank God there were plenty of gators). I shot a very nice mature female tipping the tape at justunder 8 feet six inches. My partner harpooned a 10 foot 7 inch male. We hunted a small lake (very shallow-3 to 20 feet deep) near Titusville, Fl. Our guide, Gary Griffin, should be called King Neptune. This guy knows everything about anything pertaining to water and what's in it. He was a delight to be around (I would recommend him highly)!

Awsome pics Huck!
It looks like Marty would be a great guy to have around when it comes time to pack an elk off the mountain. I know a few guys that run 280lbs, but they can't see their own feet.

Alright. Well I came to sort of a disappointing realization today. I'm pretty sure I've got the draw length on this new bow set too long. I can really keep it at a solid back wall or establish a consistent enough anchor point.
So...I'll take it back in this week to see if they switch the module out for me. I'm sure this guy's gonna get tired of seeing me...but what the hell, I need to get it right. Take care.

I had a pretty exciting night. I took a friend out for his second season of bow hunting. I introduced him to archery just over three years ago. Well, long story short, he scored his first muley buck tonight. It wasn't a monster, but he was proud nonetheless.
We glassed a doe and fawn early off. We both passed...
With about an hour of daylight left, I came across three small bucks feeding across a hillside. I high tailed it back to Steve. I had left him in a small clearing-about 100 yards away. The two of us worked our way in on the band of bucks. The wind (upslope conditions) was perfect. I ranged the biggest of the three at 34 yards. He was a small basket 6 point (three point western count). Steve took aim and let one rip. The arrow fell low-the buck leapt and trotted off a distance. The other two bucks stoodstill. They were totally confused/clueless. I ranged the closest buck-exactly 29 yards. I talked Steve through the shot. I think I really help to calm his nerves. Trust me, he was shaking like a wet cat! The arrow double lunged the buck. It could not have been placed more perfectly! The buck ran 20 yards and lights out! It was a gas being there to help a good friend. The deer turned out to be a small fork by spike. Sorry, we didn't get feild photos. I'll try to get some tomorrow...
