Hi guys, just got back from the elk trip. Was a lot of fun – wow I’m just beat. The elk didn’t want to cooperate at first so we ended up putting on a lot of miles looking for elk that wanted to ‘talk’… Finally got into some vocal elk on Thursday. We got one, and the other 2 of us had near shot opportunities.

Actually was able to hunt one of my favorite stands on opening weekend on the way back from the elk trip. Had a small 4x4, 3x3, spike and several does and fawns under 30 yards for about 30 minutes. Didn’t see any mature bucks – think it was too hot. Wish that site wasn’t so far away – no sure if I’ll get to hunt it much more this year.

Soon.. soon my friends I will in my new home and internet ready once again. Just about 10 days from now. In less than 5 days the Illinois season opens....

I do have a bit of bad news however.. I missed a doe in wisc. on public land this past sunday morning that would have earned me that buck tag....AAARRRGHH!!!

She was pushing the 33 yard mark and my arrow just dropped right below the money spot. unbelievable! I'll be back into the wisc. season this weekend looking for a public land doe.

Saturday is go-time for us PA guys. I've already got my clothes washed, de-scented and waiting in a rubbermaid container. My stand is waiting at the garage door with my daypack already loaded and ready to go. Everything is good to go, I just have to remember not to forget my bow again this year.

I planned to get in several hunts this weekend - but the weather didn't cooperate at all [:@]

We had storms with high winds and lighting both Sat. and Sun. morning - and I had other things going on in the evenings... Hopefully this week I'll be able to sneak out for a couple of evening hunts...

Well it was another tough weekend of hunting.Friday I saw a doe and 2 fawns and a 5 pointer. Saturday morning I saw 2 does and Saturday afternoon I saw 2 does 2 fawns and a small 8 point and a big 9 point at about 100 yards. (My wife shot one of the does.) Sunday I got Skunked, first time in over 2 years I haven't seen a deer on stand.

Tell your wife Congrats on the doe! That's something she'll never forget.

My opener wasunproductive, but I had decent action- saw 7 deer, all bald or unidentified, and had a big pack of coyotes come through (no shots offered). Get back after it tonight.

Went out last night - bumped 4 bucks out on my way in (one shooter 4x4in the group). Saw another shooter (also a 4x4)in the corn - maybe 50-60 yards out, along with an unidentified deer. Had 2 doe and a 2x3 come by, all in range.

Basically, every deer that I wanted to shoot, I couldn't. And every deer that I didn't wanna shoot - stood around me like damn McKenzie targets.

Hot, miserable, sweaty - I couldn't stay out of my own way last night. It felt like 80 degrees when I left the car.
