Okie, I feel your pain- I've spent 8 days hunting this season so far on 2 different leases and have YET to see a deer[>:].
I work 4 on & 4 off & this set off it is raining until the last day, then it will be cool with light north winds. But, that is THE ONLY day in October I agreed to watch my son for my wife to make a day trip.
Oh well family comesa first.
I'm putting all my chips on my last set off in October. I've stayed out of my areas, they should be fresh and the rut & prerutwill be ON in south East Texas. I'll have my full 4 days off so I'll be wearing green all 4 days and doing my best to score where the deer run scared.

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers
im going to be hunting in about a half hour. Ive had lots of close calls but havent been lucky enough to connect yet. Trapping season opened last weekend and I got 2 nice coons.
Mike, that really sucks. Hopefully your luck will turn around.
DaveC - just curious where your lease is in SE texas. By what city. My uncle lives near beaumont. Neat looking country down there. My dad and i were thinking of hunting there with him sometime.
Good luck you guys.

OK guys tonight at 5:05 Pm I looked to my right and there was a deer its head was behind a tree. I stood and grabed my bow at the same time I turned to my right drew my bow and wammm I drilled a buck. Now the bad part it was rainning pretty hard. I wated in my stand until 5;35. After the hit the deer ran 40-50 yards and just stood there his tail was swiching I coulden't see his head or him very well case of all the bruch then it cut to the left walking slowly and stoped after another 30 yards and stopped for a couple min. agian and it did it one more time before I lost sight of it. I walked over to where I hit it and found nothing it was getting too dark so I went to where I saw him last he wasn't there I looked around a little bit and didn't find him. So I opted to leave ranter then push him. I'll go back after the rain stops tomorow and hopefully I'll have some good news for you all. He's smalll but he will give us some points. Wish me luck it looked like a good hit.

Miiiike! We need news!!!! I hope you found em!
Monday morning was opening day for us here in MA. I zipped in the AM, including finding one of my stands stolen and ripping the seat off of another.
Monday night, I had a NIIIICE buck come out just about sunset but he never came all the way across the field for a shot until WAAAY after shooting light. He was 50 yards away when the light totally failed me and after a group of foxes came by I was able to sneak out without hearing anything get spooked so I bet the foxes scared him off.
My buddy called me last night saying he passed up a forky from the same stand. He would have taken it if he had a close in chip shot but with the rain he didn't want to risk a marginal hit.

You guys aren't going to belive this!!!!
I went to my little sweet spot to put up my ladder to my stand today as I picked this spot for tomorrows opening day. Well when I got there the trees were gone! I mean cut clean piled up and ready to go. Now I had teo stands hanging so I went in and looked around one was still in the tree they haden't got to yet so I took that down the other was gone as was the tree it was in. I searched high and low and coulden't find it. I was on my way out and I saw a pile of hard wood trees so I climbed my way into them and you guessed it there on the bottom of the pile was the tree with my stand still on it. It was banged up but I was able to get it off the tree and I think its still useable. I sure hope this is not an omen of how my season is going to be. First all the problems with my bow and now this. Man this was such a sweet spot no one else ever hunted there and I took some really nice bucks out of there. I used to go there with my grand dad and my dad (god rest their soles) and started hunting there over 40 years ago. Man I'm loosing so many spots I am starting to see why a lot of older guys quit huntingthings like this are really hard on the heart I have a lot of great family memories from there. All smashed now. Opening day tommorow I don't even think I'll go out. Good Luck guys

Weird that they left your stands on. They must have been using tree loppers to not notice perhaps?

24/7 My East Texas lease is near Splendora OR between Cleveland and Houston.
The pig pictures are from my west Texas lease near Del Rio/ Rocksprings.
2 totally different areas of the state. The terrains are such a stark contrast it's hard to believe they are on the same continent.
You want coons?? our state is completely over run with coons now that now one traps them or runs dogs for them any more. East Texas has bunches of them. I've counted 8 at one time. Congrats on the 2 you've caught.
Good luck finding him Mike. I've always thought I'd stick an animal twice if it gave me the chance- never been there though (except a spin shot 8 once).
I pulled a bone head move this morning. I made it to my East Texas lease this morning for a foggy hot morning hunt (I'm getting desperate) before the forcasted rains begin and couldn't find my hunting license after getting everything ready to head out (at home in a pair of camo pants back pocket from the trip last week).
So I took a short nap and hauled my climber out after day break to set it up for next weeks hunt (cabled & locked to a hidden tree) . What do I see but a racked buck crossing a logging road at 0851 and then 2 plump does directly under the stand I planned on hunting that morning.
I then saw 2 more deer retruning to camp.
Ergg, now its rainingas it was forcasted.
Find that buck Mike !!! we're pulling for ya!
