American Black Duck (anas rubripes)
Due to the destruction of their habitat - either salt or freshwater marshes and lakes - and various human-introduced toxins like pesticides and lead ammo have lead to a decrease in this bird's population. They have dark brown bodies, lighter colored heads and necks, and black-tipped bills. (Males' are yellow or orange, females' are more green-tinted.) Found mainly in the eastern half of the continent, these birds grow close to two feet in length.
