Lead Search: |
A leash, strap cord or chain attached to a collar or harness by which the dog is restrained or led.

Length of pull Search: |
On a firearm, it is the length between the trigger and the butt of the stock.

Licensed Trial Search: |
a trial licensed by the AKC at which championship points are awarded

Lick Search: |
During breeding season, whitetails lick branches overhanging scrapes as a method of communication.

Limited Stake Search: |
This is a field trial stake that is limited to dogs over six months of age that have placed or been awarded a AJM in an Open Stake, or that have placed first or second in a Qualifying Stake, or placed or been awarded a JAM in an Amateur Stake that is carrying championship points.

Line Search: |
(1) The starting point for dog tests, trials, and training. The dog is “on line” when it is his turn to work. (2) The line segment from Point A to Point B from the starting point of tests, trails, and training (Point A) to the item to be retrieved, be it for marks or blinds (Point B).

Line Breeding Search: |
The mating of a dog within g the same breed within the same line or family, to a common ancestor. For example, mating a dog to his granddam or a btich to her grandsire.

Line Manners Search: |
A term used to describe how a dog acts while sitting at the "line" under judgment. This includes walking up to the line from the holding blind and assuming his position, while the birds are being shot, while being sent for the retriever, while delivering, honoring and walking off line. It is important that a retriever be well mannered.

Literal Casting Search: |
A cast that, if taken properly, would lead directly to the blind. A “back” cast means to change direction a few degrees to the side of the cast, not go turn around and go straight back. An angle-back cast means to change direction 45 degrees, while an over cast means to go 90 degrees over.
