Default Every dog has an in bread purpose?

Hi folks? I know there are a number of different sporting dogs and each has some specific purpose or something that one is born to do better than the others. Take for example the hound: Walkers, Bloods, Blue Ticks, Red bones, Black & Tans. I have a two Black and Tans and would like to know what their purpose is supposed to be in the hunting community and in relation to the other breeds. I'm asking so I can apply that purpose to their trainning.

They are treeing dogs by nature and should do well hunting any game that trees such as coon, bear, bobcat, cougar etc. But black and tans do well with running game also such as fox and deer
