I HAVE, BUT I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT THEY WERE USED FOR. NOT BIRDS, BUT I AM THINKING RABBITS OR SOME OTHER BURROWING ANIMAL. THEY CAN GET DOWN IN THE HOLES, AND FLUSH OUT THE CRITTERS. I DON'T THINK THAT IT IS POPULAR ANYMORE, THOUGH YES, THEY WERE AND MIGHT BE TO SOME EXTENT STILL USED. GOOGLE THE BREED AND SEE WHAT COMES UP. SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET THEIR HISTORY, AND WHAT THEY ARE COMMONLY USED FOR.

GOOD LUCK.

My brother has one that is a pretty good squirrel dog. Killed 11 with her this past weekend. Only problem is, sometimes we have to help her cross logs and skidder ruts...

Daschunds (sp?) were originally bred as hunting dogs to ferret out rabbits and such. Today they are used more often as "Blood Trailing Dogs". There are large clubs in any State where it is legal to use these dogs. Google Blood Trailing Dogs anad yu should come up with a airly good response.

I always heard they were used for badger and rabbit hunting, because they could back out of a hole really fast.
