Its been awhile since my last journal entry but believe me, it's not because I haven't been doing anything!  My summer has been filled with not only keeping up with work around the HuntingNet.com office, but preparing for the hunting season as well.  I will be going on my first elk hunt this fall in Montana with Elk Creek Outfitting so needless to say I'm extremely excited for that.  Paul and I have been busy preparing all of our new gear for the trip and making sure our bows are in top condition.  Speaking of which, I recently purchased a new bow.  A brand new Bowtech Allegiance has a new home in my bow case and thanks to my friends at GAT Guns in Dundee, IL it is shooting extremely well.  Tipped with NAP Nitron broadheads, I believe I'm shooting tighter groups at longer distances than ever before.  It really is amazing how much archery technology has advanced in even the past 5 or 6 years.

When I haven't been preparing for my elk hunt, I've been busy making sure everything is set for the upcoming Illinois and Wisconsin archery seasons.  My food plots are in and doing very well this year.  I have a lot of stands hang in some great spots this year and I'm very optimistic that I'll score on a nice buck.  Justin and I will be doing some filming this year for the first time with our new Canon GL2 camera so hopefully we'll be able to bring you all some good footage in the new few months.

A great early season rub in the backyard
This is a great early season rub I found.  This is the kind of stuff that gets you pumped up for the season!

I did have one setback while hanging stands a few weeks ago.  I lost my cell phone!  While this may not be a huge deal for a lot of people, I had over 500 contacts in there and for those of you who know me, you know I live and die by that thing.  In fact, I still don't have all of my contacts put back in my new phone yet!

Recently I stopped in by my taxidermist and just had to take some photos of this awesome McHenry County, IL buck that he was working on.   This thing was awesome!

Things out at the Coon Creek Hunt Club are also shaping up nicely for this fall.  The clubhouse is in great condition, the fields look awesome, and we have a lot of great new members this year.  This Sunday October 1 is the opener for our pheasant hunting season so for those of you who are members and want to come out, make sure you call the office and reserve your spot today!

And last but certainly not least, I recently got to do some dove hunting with my good friend Muhsin Muhammad from the Chicago Bears.  Moose came out for his first ever day of dove hunting with his daughter and we had a blast.  It was a beautiful day out and there were plenty of birds and a lot of shooting for everyone.  Of course when my son Craig got bored he decided that it would be more fun to play with the steering wheel of my truck than help his dad look for birds, but I guess that's just part of being a kid!

I did make it up to Wisconsin for opening weekend of archery season, but I'll save that for another post!
