Trade shows and outdoor related banquets have made it possible for outdoor people to meet fellow outdoor addicts. There, a true combination of love, sport, and the passion that bridges us together to share experiences. Outdoor expos present chances to mingle with people that are not only saturated in the hunting industry, but also a variety of new faces and products from all over the country.
This weekend, I spent time at a regional hunting and fishing trade show in Wisconsin. During opening morning, I set up my Wik’s World Outdoors booth to promote the summer hunting camp for kids. Thankfully, my roommate lent a hand in helping me unravel a tangled mess of cords, spill boxes of material, and decorate my 10x10 corridor.
The challenges faced being a full-time college student and running a small business are great. It really enhances my ability to put hard work ethic to the test. Along my relentless journeys, I have been very blessed to meet some big-hearted people who also believe in my message. It’s those who share the same feelings of duty with whom I relate to most. Those who take the time to assist a newcomer into the woods have always been on my team. Thankfully, many of those individuals came by my booth to talk.

My odds have always been lucky to have a booth near someone that is just as energetic as I am. This year was no different. I had the pleasure of hosting a booth alongside Dan Shafer, owner of Rut Junkie Apparel. An apparel line that’s flashy, trendy and something that any outdoors maniac would sport. There wasn’t a dull moment during the entire 3 days. Shafer also runs one of the top hunting and fishing guide services in Canada, called Cygnet Lake Camp. I look forward to the opportunity of hunting there this fall.
I couldn’t help but drool over a brand new product, called the Smootchie. It’s a disposable carbon-lined mask that adsorbs breath odor. More than 80% of human odor escapes from our mouth. It is activated and vacuum-sealed directly after production. As difficult as recharging carbon is, this inexpensive, disposable, and multi-use product will be used by both my field producer and I.
During the final day, I ran into a fellow Wisconsin resident named David Sumner. He is the inventor of Flirty Girty lures and Turkey Dave Footrest. His footrest is a product that every deer and turkey hunter would say, “I should’ve thought of that.” It’s simply a lightweight, collapsible, portable and virtually indestructible footrest used when sitting on the ground. It relieves back, neck and foot pain while stabilizing your shot.
I took pleasure participating in the event. It always offers an opportunity to shake hands, take photos, and spreading the hunting message. There’s no better place for an outdoorsman or woman to be. Trade shows are a hunter’s dream, and is where new products plunge into the industry. If you have the chance, check one out for yourself. |
